New_York_GP_275x207_1Formula One impresario Bernie Ecclestone has made no secret of his desire to see his series make a stop in the Big Apple – Manhattan, in point of fact. To that end, our friends at 0-60 Magazine thought they’d help him out by drawing up a suggested courses – in fact, in an oddly prescient move, they had already done so, publishing the fantasy circuits in the pages of their Winter 2008 issue.

In any case, with Ecclestone reportedly reaffirming his interest in the Big Apple last week, 0-60 has decided to publish the story and the routes online. The routes through Central Park are inspired, although we suspect that more than a few of NYC’s anti-car intelligentsia would take issue with that notion.

This idea is certainty strengthened by the Formula One Teams Association’s interest in returning the the United States.

Personally I love the idea of more Grand Prix exposure here in the States, and the idea of a Manhattan street race is awfully fun to dream about. Logistically I just don’t see this happening. The tarmac on Broadway isn’t exactly FiA-spec, and I just doubt that the city of New York will support the idea – say the way Singapore has.

What do you think of the idea? If not New York, where would you like to see a US Grand Prix held?

Street courses suck period! There is a perfect F1 course in Indianapolis! That little weasel Ecclestone needs to go! 15 foot wide, bumpy street courses absolutely suck!!

There isn't a city/location for a street circuit that would be feasible especially economically. (Save for Long Beach) but do we want a circuit that makes Valencia and Singapore look interesting (If Singapore were not run at night it would be pretty yawn inducing)).
Agree with Paul and JayZee who suggest Indy. Plus it is fairly well oriented for travel to the race from both coasts, and even overseas. If prices were even greater than what they were in 2007, it would still be one of the cheapest races of them all.

I agree, Indy is still the most logical location (been to every F1 Race there!), but would love to have Road America/Elkhart Lake be a possibilty, its alot cheaper than repaving NYC, and we are the 2nd safest state in the US to live in, and Chicago/Milwaukee is close by too.

The Presidio of San Francisco would be a good place. Up Arguello, Right on Washington, Right on Park Presidio and straight on McDowell all the way down the hill, right on Mason street (two straights joined by an ess) then back up to Arguello somehow through the Parade Ground.

Big city, great views, great dining, plenty of hotels, and within easy reach of many potential high tech sponsors in silicon valley. Perhaps the 8 hour time difference to england is a problem for TV.

+1 for the Glen, using the NASCAR course.

Stunning, I didn’t heard about that till now. Thanks!

How about Miami, can't imagine a more international city here in the US. Make it a street course, no way to make Homestead viable as an F1 venue, it would end up as a marginally acceptable circuit with a "micky mouse" inflied roac course!
